Race Relations in the lands of Azurial

Unknown to many of you was the name of the Kingdom of which you live in or the name of your king.  Well have no fear as soon all will be revealed in the following document: A Brief Description of Race Relations and Some Minor Points of History in the Lands of Azurial. Read it after the jump.

The Human Kingdom of Azurial is located on the south-western coast of the Continent.  The Kingdom is ruled over by King Trailot Azurius.  The kingdom is 2038 years old from the date of its original union of all the citys and it's official declaration of borders.  Within the borders of Azurial live a number of other non human races.  Of the common races there are the dwarves, the gnomes, the halflings, the elves, half-elves and a small number of half-orcs.  Each race handles being within the borders of Azurial differently then other races.  The dwarves are positively affected by the presence of humans.  With many humans there becomes a network and a market for the goods produced by dwarves and the precious stones and metals that they mine.  Otherwise the dwarves live too far away in such remote locations that the nearest human town is atleast a 2 and a half week travel.
The gnomes are happy to live within the borders of "tall people" as gnomes experience the same freedoms and laws as the humans while benefiting from the protection the humans grant. Though gnome have been known to make their own settlements none are the size of the vast human cities to which the gnomes are all too willing to be a part of.
Halflings are always on the move and are also glad to benefit from the protection of the humans and to travel on the roads built by the humans.  Thanks to the existence of kingdoms like Azurial halflings can travel safely from town to town on well kept roads.  Some humans see halflings as shiftless and lazy with no contributions to society.  It is true that many halflings experience tax exemption as a result of no owned property and possesion of very little material wealth but most humans feel it wouldn't be worth the time to try and squeeze a few coppers out of this small race.
Of all the races that exist in Azurial the elves are the only ones who live more at tension than the humans.  Due to their long lived lives many elves have witnessed how quickly the human settlements have grown and many of them show concern for nature.  Not only that but due to their remote locations of living and their lack of personal records it becomes difficult to tax elves.  This is considered fair by elves as elves barely benefit from living in a human kingdom the way that humans and the other races do.  Roads connecting various human towns are meaningless to a race that dwells mostly in the forest.  The vast wealth and large markets don't mean too much to a race that values self-suffiency nor do the elves value the protection of land they may never see in their life time.  Not only that but elves can not call upon the armies of the humans to help them deal with the hazards of the forest as it would take far too long for the humans to amass a force to deal with a threat that elves would be better equiped and more knowledgable to deal with.  For this reason the elves tend to live a more isolated life than the other races.  It has also been the cause on animosity between some of the other races and elves as many of the other races feel that if the elves exist and live within the borders of Azurial they should contribute equally, give equally and defend equally as the other races.  As a result of this many of the elves see themselves as a nation within a nation while many others think of them as unwilling to add to society and taking what ever benefits they can.
